Maxxit vs ccusage for allowance and token reports

Choose ccusage for terminal reports about local tokens and estimated costs. Consider Maxxit for reported Codex and Claude Code allowance in a Mac desktop app and menu bar. You can use both when those different questions matter to your work.

Allowance and token reports answer different questions

A reported allowance window helps answer whether your assistant has capacity left and when that window resets. A token report helps explain observed activity over a day, week, or session. Neither measurement is automatically an account-wide balance or a final bill.

The Maxxit provider guide, ccusage overview, and ccusage's Codex and Claude Code guides explain the sources behind this table.

Choose ccusage for reporting and scripts

ccusage gives you local reports in terminal tables or structured JSON. Its source-specific commands let you focus a report on Codex or Claude instead of combining all detected sources. That fits analysis and scripts better than Maxxit's narrower daily Codex CSV.

Coverage depends on the logs available on your machine. ccusage's pinned Codex guide marks log support as experimental as the format changes. Claude history depends on retained project logs. A missing or unsupported record cannot become a complete account history just because a report has a total.

For automated processing, read the JSON output documentation and keep pricing flags and unknown values with the results. Estimated cost is useful context, but does not prove a subscription charge or the provider's final invoice.

Choose Maxxit for a visible allowance reading

Maxxit keeps each assistant's reported windows, remaining percentage, reset time, and observation age in the app. Its menu bar lets you check the selected assistant without opening a terminal report. It also has a local project list.

This depends on local sources. Codex must record a usable observation; Claude must emit allowance fields through the bridge you reviewed and installed. Refreshing Maxxit cannot invent a missing window. A passed reset does not turn an old observation into renewed capacity.

Maxxit's token chart is also partial. It reads bounded portions of selected Codex session files and marks missing days unknown. Use ccusage when its broader reporting or model-cost analysis is the feature you need. Maxxit does not replace that analysis.

Local use does not require cloud sharing

Both tools can analyze local usage without a mandatory cloud upload. ccusage's introduction and privacy notes document local processing. Its offline mode uses cached pricing; download the tool and make the required pricing available before relying on an offline setup. Normal package installation and pricing retrieval can need network access.

Maxxit local analytics need no Maxxit account. Optional usage and project sharing are separate choices, and update checks make network requests. Review Maxxit's privacy policy and desktop data guide before enabling sharing. Local analysis is a capability shared by both tools, not a unique privacy claim for Maxxit.

Exported reports can reveal your activity. Review them before posting publicly, and never attach the underlying provider session files or credentials to a support issue.

Pick a tool for the next question

If your question is about tokens, models, sessions, or estimated cost, start with ccusage's official reporting guide. If you want supported local allowance readings visible on your Mac, follow Maxxit's setup guide. Using both can be useful, but you do not need to install a second tool unless it answers a question the first one leaves open.
